Gir Jungle Safari Permit Charges

One e-permit allows a maximum of six persons plus one child aged between 3 and 12 years. The permit amount does not include the safari vehicle or guide charge.

Safari Vehicle and Guide Charges

For example, an Indian group using a six-seater safari vehicle on a weekday would pay the ₹800 permit charge plus ₹3,500 for the vehicle and the applicable guide charge. The practical total therefore starts at about ₹4,700 with a G2 guide, before any camera fee or other applicable charge. Weekend and festival-day permits cost more.

Gir Jungle Safari Experience

The Gir Jungle Safari is a three-hour guided drive through designated tourism routes in the forest. The landscape itself is a major part of the experience, even on a drive where a lion remains out of view.

Asiatic lions are the main attraction, but Gir is also an important leopard habitat. Devalia Safari Park

Devalia Safari Park, also called the Gir Interpretation Zone, is a separate 412-hectare wildlife tourism area about 13 km from Sasan Gir. It was developed as a compact interpretation of the Gir ecosystem and is useful for travellers who want a shorter safari or who are visiting when the main Gir Jungle Safari is closed.

Devalia offers both bus and gypsy safaris and has a much shorter visitor circuit than the main forest safari. Asiatic lions, leopards, spotted deer, sambar, nilgai, blackbuck, wild boar, jackals and birds are among the wildlife represented there. It remains closed every Wednesday.

Devalia should not be confused with the Gir Jungle Safari. The main safari explores designated routes inside the larger Gir forest landscape for about three hours, while Devalia is a smaller interpretation zone with shorter safari circuits and a different ticket system.

How to Reach Gir National Park

Sasan Gir is the main base for visiting the park and is connected by road and rail with several cities in Gujarat.

By Air

Keshod, around 60 km away, is the closest airport listed by the Gir authorities, while Diu is roughly 100 km from Sasan Gir. Rajkot, about 160 km away, is a larger and better-connected option for many travellers. Ahmedabad is around 370 km away and is useful for visitors combining Gir with a longer Gujarat itinerary.

By Rail

Sasan has its own railway station. For wider rail connectivity, Veraval is about 45 km away and Junagadh about 60 km away. Taxis and buses are available from both cities for the onward journey to Sasan Gir.

By Road

Sasan Gir is accessible by road from Junagadh, Veraval, Amreli, Una and other parts of Saurashtra. Approximate road distances are 45 km from Veraval, 60 km from Junagadh, 160 km from Rajkot and 370 km from Ahmedabad. Travellers with an early morning safari often find it easier to stay in or near Sasan Gir the previous night.

Best Time to Visit Gir National Park

November to February is the most comfortable period for most visitors because mornings and evenings are cooler and a three-hour open-vehicle safari is easier to enjoy. This is also a popular season, so permits can be in strong demand during weekends and holidays.

March to mid-June is hotter, but the drier landscape can make wildlife activity around water sources particularly interesting. Visitors choosing this period should be prepared for strong daytime heat and should prefer the early morning slot where possible. The main Gir Jungle Safari is not available from June 16 to October 15, although Devalia operates on a separate schedule and can provide an alternative subject to official availability and weather conditions.

How Much Time Is Needed?

One Gir Jungle Safari takes about three hours, but travellers should keep additional time for permit verification, boarding and local transfers. A half-day is usually enough if the safari is the only priority.
